Jerada Hosts Women’s Legislation & Empowerment Seminar

On Sunday, March 8, the city of Jerada hosted a distinguished scientific seminar titled Women Between Legislation and Economic Empowerment to mark International Women’s Day.

The event was led by Jerada Province Governor (السير العامل) الفاضل, and was attended by Sra. Karima Al-Adrisi, the Public Prosecutor at Jerada Court (وكيلة الملك بابتدائية جرادة), as well as the city’s Pasha.

Judges from the Public Prosecution and the Presidency, along with heads of administrative services and staff of the Jerada Court, participated in the proceedings.

The gathering drew broad participation from multiple government sectors, including security and the Royal Gendarmerie, Education, Youth and Sports, and Health. Representatives from administration and local authorities were present, together with assistants to the judiciary, such as lawyers and judicial officers (محامين ومفوضين قضائيين), alongside figures from civil society and media outlets.

The assembly reflected a cross-sector approach to discussing legislative frameworks and practical steps for empowering women within the family and society.

In her opening remarks, the Public Prosecutor emphasized that advancing women’s status and removing obstacles to their roles as homemakers, economic actors, and social and political participants is a fundamental entry point for comprehensive development.

She highlighted the special attention paid to women by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, describing women as a core pillar of the royal project and recalling the 2022 royal address directives that, she stated, affirm that the building of a Morocco of progress and dignity can only be achieved through the participation of both women and men alike.

The remarks underscored legislative and institutional reforms that have marked milestones in safeguarding women’s rights, including the Family Code and the 2011 Constitution, which are seen as foundational in enhancing legal protection, particularly against violence and discrimination, and promoting equality and parity as a national objective.

The Public Prosecutor reiterated the role of the Public Prosecution as part of the judiciary in protecting public order and individual rights, prioritizing the proper application of laws protecting women and addressing all forms of violence, with mechanisms for supporting women victims of violence through a participatory approach involving institutional and civil society actors.

The seminar concluded affirming that honoring women is, at its core, a tribute to the family and society, and extended warm congratulations to all women worldwide, with special regards to Moroccan women on International Women’s Day.
